The short version. ReelEditor edits your videos on your Mac, and we never receive them. The App has no analytics. To plan edits, Claude reads text and frames through your own Anthropic account. Licence checks go to Lemon Squeezy.
What stays on your Mac
Your clips, scripts, projects, settings and finished videos are stored on your Mac. ReelEditor processes them locally: transcription, cutting, captions, sound mixing and rendering all run on your computer. We do not receive, store or view your videos.
Licence checks
To check your licence, the App sends your licence key and a device name to Lemon Squeezy, which handles our payments and licensing. That is how we know a key is valid and how many Macs it is on. Right after a purchase, the App also sends the order number and its private order code to our licence lookup (licence.reeleditor.ai, run on Cloudflare), which asks Lemon Squeezy for that order’s key and passes it back so the App can activate itself; the lookup keeps nothing. Lemon Squeezy’s own privacy policy covers how it handles that data and your purchase and payment details. We don’t see your card number.
Claude and Anthropic
ReelEditor uses Claude to plan and make edits, through your own Claude account (Pro or Max) or your Anthropic API key. When it runs, the App sends Anthropic what Claude needs to do the job: the transcript of what you said, still frames from your clips, and your notes and chat requests. Your full video files are not sent. How Anthropic stores and uses that is set by Anthropic’s own terms and privacy policy and by your own account settings. Your key or sign-in stays with your account and is used on your Mac.
Updates
The App checks GitHub, where its releases are published, for a new version about once a day, and downloads it from there. GitHub sees your IP address as part of serving those files, as it does for the first download.
Optional connections
These happen only if you connect them in the App:
- ElevenLabs (made sound effects and music): the App sends the text description of the sound to ElevenLabs using your key.
- Instagram (advanced option to post from the App): the App talks to Instagram with the account you connect, and sends the video and caption you choose to post.
- Google Drive (keeping a copy): the App sends the files you choose to your own Drive.
Each of those services has its own privacy policy.
Analytics and tracking
The App has no analytics and no tracking. This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you. To see which of our ads bring people here, it may also use the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms): it records that you visited, downloaded the App or bought it, linked to the ad you came from, and sets Meta’s cookies. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland it loads only after you press Allow, and No thanks keeps it off; you can change your choice by clearing this site’s data in your browser. When the Meta Pixel is on for you and you buy on this website, the purchase is also reported to Meta from our server, as a hashed (scrambled) email address, your country and the amount, so the ads that led to it can be measured; purchases made with No thanks, or inside the App, are not. The checkout opens through Lemon Squeezy, whose script is loaded on our pages and which may set its own cookies when you use it. Downloads come from GitHub, which sees your IP address as part of serving the file.
